A Father’s Gift

Posted by dawn On July - 16 - 20101 COMMENT

Just to share a story I read:

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.

Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day.

Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search his father’s important papers and saw the still new bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse,

Matt 7:11,
"And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…

PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God’s blessings because they are not packaged
as we expected?

Happy ending

Posted by dawn On July - 11 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

In this time where divorce rates are ever rising. Where love can seem so superficial. I stumbled upon hope… I stumbled upon faith…of all places, from the papers.

When I read about death in the papers, sometimes it can make me feel very sad. I’m sure all of us feel some kind of sadness for the person’s family, loved ones, friends…That’s because death is always associated with grief, sadness and mourning.

However, on this very day when I read this news of death, it actually brought warmth, comfort, joy, hope and love. Most of all love. Check out the article below:

Till death do us part…

Or do they???

Have a great week ahead and spread the love! We ALL need some. :)

my favourite colour

Posted by dawn On July - 11 - 20101 COMMENT

Two years back, when people ask me what my favourite colour is I used to need to think for a while.

It usually goes like this:

someone: Dawn, what’s your favourite colour?

me: um… I don’t really have a favourite colour… it depends on what it is… I think I like ALL colours. I guess I like rainbow colours!

So obviously it is very difficult for me to tell anyone what my favourite colour for flowers is. I like red, pink, yellow, white, orange, well…brown not really (i doubt if we have brown flowers though :p) but yea basically any other colour is nice. I like rainbow colours.

I was reading this article in New Straits Times the other day. And do you know what colour flowers they have now???

YES! That’s right! RAINBOW COLOURED roses! A Dutch florist came up with it.

It’s called multi-coloured flowers, rainbow roses or happy roses. I definitely agree that they are happy flowers. How can they not be with so many cheery colours on them? :)

It was only recently that I managed to narrow down my favourite colours. I like red, white, black and everything in between.

Some will give a ‘huh???’ expression. So in between includes, maroon, pink… :)

It’s good that I have narrowed down the colours I like coz these ‘happy roses’? It’s RM 118 PER STALK. :)

But aren’t they pretty?

Have a good weekend everyone! Be like a HAPPY FLOWER!

Cold?

Posted by dawn On July - 9 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Symptoms of a cold? Runny nose? Stuffy nose at 4am? Couldn’t sleep but gotta wake for work? Feeling absolutely crappy?

What should you do?

That was what happened to me last night. In the night sick. Morning not well, by after lunch? Perfectly healthy. How?

Let me show you the few simple ways to prevent it from getting worse.

First, blow out all those stuffy thing from your nose every time when it’s bothering you. Yes, even when you are sleeping.

Second, drink one litre of water the moment you wake up. I also had two probiotics.

Third, have your breakfast (I had two bread with jam and nutella and milo with oats)

Fourth, I had a vitamin c pill and a garlic pill.

Fifth, drink a glass warm water every half an hour.

By lunch you should be feeling alright.

After lunch have another garlic pill.

(I do not take medication coz I’m allergic to most of them. So I have to make sure I kill all symptoms of cold the natural way before I fall really sick)

Continue drinking warm water an hour after lunch.

Perfect way to cure the symptoms of cold.

Bottom line is drink loads of warm water. You might feel bloated but you will thank me…um…I mean you will thank the water :p

Uh oh…I feel a sneeze coming. Time for more water!

Driving in the jam…

Posted by dawn On May - 8 - 20102 COMMENTS

Or perhaps peanut butter? It’s so bumper to bumper it feels more sticky than jam.

OK I’m just crapping on a Saturday morning. I haven’t been up so early on a Saturday morning for God knows how long. And I’ve already done some dishes and put my first round of laundry into the machine, hung them. Now the second round. :) NICE. I like productive days.

Anyway, for the past week I have come up with a conclusion that besides having the time issue in common for most Malaysians, I have also decided that we are a DAMN hardworking lot.

Head to work at 7.30am = Peanut butter

Tried leaving earlier at 6.30am = Jam

And then when heading home at 6.30pm = Kaya + Peanut butter

8.30pm = Kaya

Hmm….Maybe I should start leaving at 5.30am??? Go home at 11pm???

YES! Jams can be SO FRUSTRATING (especially if you are running late). Example, the first 40 minutes in the jam is still quite alright. But if you have to be at work in 20 minutes and the jam is gonna last for another 25 minutes then you will start getting stressed and impatient.

YES. So to reduce the tension, one should leave earlier.

However, for some, perhaps it doesn’t matter whether they are rushing anywhere BUT as long as it is jammed up, they go crazy.

Basically, this post would be for YOU. Those that go crazy cursing and getting mad. Coz the fact remains THAT. It is jam and you’ll be stuck UNLESS you can FLY. YEAP.

So for those of you, I’ll suggest a few ways you can reduce that tension. It’s no yoga but I hope it helps.

I shall speak from experience. First of all be chill. Here are some of the things to do:

1) Pray. We are always too busy for this. Which is an excuse but happens to me too. God put us in a jam for a reason. :p Just kidding!

2) Watch the skies, trees, nature. If you are already late, might as well watch the sunrise too. And for all it’s beauty, praise and thank the creator. (OK. Don’t start thinking that this is gonna be a religious blog post. It just happened that these to comes to mind first). Oh if you are lucky like me, you might see a rainbow =)

3) Karaoke! Yes. You can karaoke outside Red Box Black Box Green box. You can karaoke in your very own box and no one can hear you! And if they do see you and you feel silly, it’s alright coz you will be doing a good deed. It’s entertaining right? To see people looking crazy? haha! Yea so please do sing coz research showed that it will increase your lung capacity which means living longer, (reader’s digest)

Please keep your eyes open though.

4) Observe what others are doing. It can get quite interesting watching some staring blankly ahead. And some putting the time to good use by reading a paper. Of course I’m not encouraging that as it can be dangerous. But when you are in a bumper to bumper peanut butter jam and kaya, I guess you can.

While I was observing the other day, I saw someone shaving.

Please keep to just the above if you can as shaving is DISGUSTING. Imagine all the hair around and not to mention the flying

dead skin! EWWwww!

5) Dance. Yes! Can do that! Don’t have to move your legs to dance. Just the body. Yea do that while you karaoke in your own little box :)

6) Plan your day.

7) If you are doing some creative work, look around. Find inspiration. Find inspiration in the jam. Hard perhaps, but possible.

If you don’t believe me then where do you think the idea of this post came from? :)

8) Eat breakfast. Pack a sandwich or some biscuits and eat up! You need your energy.

Only when it’s really jam, but try to eat something smaller and manageable.

9) Count your blessings.  Personally I think this is the most important and will definitely keep you calm. At least you have a car to be stuck in a jam.

AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE:

HAHA!

10) SWITCH feet! If you drive an auto car, switch to your left leg when the right gets tired. (HAHA. no no please don’t try this. But I do it sometimes :p)

Try it next week! See if it works :)
